Steve Kiefer was named Vice President, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, effective Nov. 20, 2014. Kiefer is responsible for GM’s worldwide purchasing, supply chain, and logistics operations. Drawing on extensive technical expertise and first-hand experience as a supplier, Kiefer’s focus is on collaborating with suppliers to deliver exceptional vehicle quality, innovations, and value to customers. He also participates with GM’s senior-most Executive Leadership Team members in discussions involving the company’s products, vehicle design, and sourcing strategies. Kiefer is a member of the Supervisory Board of Adam Opel AG in Germany, sits on the Advisory Board of Focus: HOPE, and serves as the Chairman of the Board at the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council.

Previously he was Vice President of Global Powertrain, beginning Sept. 1, 2013. In that role, Kiefer was responsible for the design, development, and testing of GM powertrain systems globally.

Prior to joining GM, Kiefer served as Senior Vice President of Delphi and President of Powertrain Systems, a position he had held since July 2011.

Kiefer served as Vice President of Delphi Thermal Engineering from 2009 to 2011; Vice President and Managing Director of Delphi European operations in Luxembourg from 2005 to 2008; and Business Line Executive of Delphi engine management systems from 2001 to 2004.

Other roles Kiefer has held include Senior Project Engineer at GM's Milford Proving Ground, Assistant Staff Engineer at Delphi's Powertrain division in Luxembourg, and Chief Engineer for Asia Pacific. Kiefer began his career in 1983 as a college cooperative student with GM North American Car Group and spent several years in engineering roles with GM Powertrain.

Kiefer received a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1992. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1986, which included engineering studies at RWTH Aachen University in Germany. Kiefer serves as a member of the Berkeley Engineering Advisory Board and is a member of the board of directors of United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
