Vice President of Supply Chain
Peter Carlsson joined Tesla Motors in 2011 as Vice President of Supply Chain with the mission of building a world class supply chain for electric vehicles. As such, he reports directly to Tesla's Founder and CEO, Elon Musk.
Before joining Tesla, Carlsson was the Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) for NXP (former Philips Semiconductors) responsible for purchasing and outsourcing. In this role that was located in Singapore, Carlsson had been driving a transformation project to take the purchase organization from a tactical decentralized structure to a strategic global commodity organization. Part of the transformation was moving resources from west to east which is why he was located in Singapore in 2008.
Carlsson was also Country Manager for Singapore, Malaysia, and Philippines where NXP have more than 4,000 people employed.
Before starting at NXP, Carlsson was CPO at Sony Ericsson since 2005. Carlsson had a total of 13 years experience from different roles with Ericsson and Sony Ericsson, mostly in Sweden but also in the U.S. He also lead the team that built and implemented Ericsson’s framework for Supplier Quality Assurance.
Carlsson has a Master's degree with specialization in production and quality control at Luleå Technical University in Sweden. He is part of several advisory boards for global supply chain and procurement organizations.
